Rhinelander will host its second annual Taste of Chocolate event Friday, February 5, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. This year tickets will be sold to those participating with half of the ticket price going to the Rhinelander Food Pantry. For information, call Downtown Rhinelander, Inc., at 362-7374.
Faith Lutheran Church of Three Lakes and the Oneida Village Inn will host a Haiti relief benefit Friday, February 5, from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Village Inn in Three Lakes. A fish and chicken buffet dinner will be served with proceeds donated to Haitian relief. Tickets will be sold at the door, for information, call 546-8025.
Three Lakes School Community Arts Association will host the reggae band Conga Se Menne in concert Friday, February 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Three Lakes School auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door. For information, call Mary-Ann at 546-8306.
February 6
Join WXPR for the 30th Annual White Pine Jamboree on February 6th at the Taj- Northwood’s Event Center on Pueblo Drivel in Rhinelander. Doors open at 3pm for an open jam session—all acoustic musicians are welcome to join in! Then, fiddlers of all ages compete for cash prizes in the fiddle contest, beginning at 5pm. After the contest, join us for an old-time dance with The Mastodons. They will call and teach each dance—no experience is necessary to join in! For more information, call 715-362-6000.
Phelps School in Phelps will hold a chili and homemade soup cook-off Saturday, February 6, with prizes awarded for taste, texture and aroma. After judging, soups and chili will be offered to the public. For information, call Sharon at 545-4008.
School District of Rhinelander will host a school forest trails open house Saturday, February 6, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom on South Shore Drive in Rhinelander. Phelps Chamber of Commerce will host the third annual North Twin Cup Radar Run on North Twin Lake Saturday, February 6. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. with runs beginning at 10:00. Koinonia Alumni, Family and Friends will host the first annual Boom Lake Frozen Freak Leap and Bobber Release Saturday, February 6, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Hodag Park Swimming Beach in Rhinelander. Those interested in taking a plunge into Boom Lake may do so at no charge or by pledge, and all proceeds will benefit the Rhinelander Area Homeless Shelter. Lakeland Performing Arts Association and the Wisconsin Arts Board will present the chamber music group Ten O’Clock Classics in concert Tuesday, February 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lakeland Union High School auditorium. Boulder Junction Public Library will host a series of free computer classes February 9, 11 and 16 with subjects for beginning and intermediate computer users. Nicolet College will host an open house for its Health Sciences and Technologies programs Wednesday, February 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Rhinelander campus. Rhinelander Area Retired Educators will meet Wednesday, February 10, at noon at the Claridge Motor Inn in Rhinelander for a luncheon featuring Nicolet College president Elizabeth Burmaster. St. Anthony Spirituality Center, Marathon, will offer a prayer and pottery retreat Friday and Saturday, February 12 and 13, on the theme The Work of Our Hands. Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters Snowmobile Club will host its 2010 Winterfest Rendezvous Saturday, February 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Rest Lake Park off County Highway W in Manitowish Waters. The event includes an ice fishing contest on Rest Lake, ice bowling, and groomer rides, and all proceeds will support the Sno-Skeeters’ trail maintenance programs. Lake Tomahawk Snowshoe Baseball will sponsor a Valentine’s Benefit Dance with proceeds to support the work of the Lakeland Food Pantry Saturday, February 13, from 8:00 p.m. to midnight at the Sloan Community Center in Tomahawk. The Second Annual Boulder Junction Winter Festival will be held Saturday, February 20th at the boat landing on Boulder Lake. This is a family-fun event, featuring an ice fishing tournament with prizes for adults and juniors. Try your hand at ice golf, snowshoe relay races and a tug of war on the ice. Hot food and drink will be available near the warming fires. Proceeds will benefit the Boulder Junction Boat Landing Improvement Fund and The Community Food Pantry. Upper Peninsula Thunder Rider Snowmobile Club of Watersmeet, Michigan, will sponsor a free snowmobile safety class for riders age 10 to 16 years from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20. Post Lake Improvement Association will host its 12th annual ice fishing jamboree Saturday, February 20, off Fischer’s Sunset View Resort on Upper Post Lake in Elcho. People with Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia and their caregivers can now participate in SPARK!, a free program at the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau that uses paintings and sculptures to stimulate conversation and creativity. SPARK! is held from 2-3:30 PM on specific Wednesdays. The next date is February 24, with more dates in future months. North Central Wisconsin Gun Collectors Association will host the 42nd annual Wausau Spring Gun Show Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7, in the Marathon County Park Youth Building in Wausau. Show hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 9:00 to 3:00. There is an admission charge.
