LUHS Goes SolarWise

WPS spokesperson Leah Van Zile says the program provides money savings and education..

 

"....Lakeland Union High School received a 2-kilowatt solar electric system that can power up to three average-sized classrooms which will save the district about $350 in energy costs each year. The Science Department receives(WPS) award-winning curriculum that offers students a hands-on learing experience..."

The solar panels are on the school's rooftop and are two feet wide and three feet long.

Lakeland Union High School will also be eligible for the Solar Olympics where school compete with solar energy projects. 75 precent of the schools in the 19-county WPS area are in the program.

Van Zile says the dedication at the school begins at 8:30 a.m.. with an energy fair to follow....

"....following the dedication ceremony we're hosting an energy fair that is open to the public and all the students to learn about renewable energy. (The event) is running from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m...."

The SolarWise For Schools program is sponsored by the private, non-profit Wisconsin Public Service Community Foundation and is funded by donations from about 2,700 customers.
