LUNAFEST To Help Girls On The Run Northwoods

Posted 10/13/2012

Girls on the Run of the Northwoods is hosting the LUNAFEST film festival on Saturday, October 20, at the Red Crown Lodge in Arbor Vitae to raise funds to support the Girls on the Run of the Northwoods scholarship fund and the Breast Cancer Fund.

Girls on the Run Northwoods is an afterschool program for girls from the third through eighth grades helping to build self-confidence while training for a 5K run. The program has teams at AV-W, M-H-L-T, North Lakeland and Lac du Flambeau schools. About 70 girls participate in the spring season.

Board member Lynn Lawrence says the Lunafest fundraiser will raise money for a scholarship fund and to raise money to fight breast cancer. Lawrence says they are hoping to make the film festival an annual event...

"....LUNAFEST is a national film festival so we will be showing nine short films that are by, for, and about women. It was established by the company LUNA that makes those protein bars for women..."

Lawrence says there will be a reception beginning at 5:00 p.m. including refreshments and a silent auction. The films will follow. Tickets are available at the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce or at the Lunafest.org/arbor vitae website.

For more information Lawrence says the website gotrnorthwoods.org also has more information.
