Wildlife Center Needs Deer Hearts, Livers
Posted 11/16/2012
The Center's Amanda Walsh says the hearts and livers are healthy protein for their raptors....
"....at the Northwoods Wildlife Center we want to make sure all our birds of prey are getting a nice balanced diet, primarily what a bird would encounter in the wild. So having deer hearts and livers donated at this time of year provide that variety to their diet as well as needed nutrients..."
Walsh says they have a number of beeks to feed....
".....we have about 13 birds of prey outside and two inside for the winter. But primarily our bald eagle Eddie will benefit from this, but also have a variety of owls and hawks..."
Successful hunters can drop off the hearts and livers at their site across from WalMart on Highway 70 West of Minocqua. Walsh says if no one is there, leave the organs in the vestibule.
