Vilas Bd. Keeps Employees

Posted 11/27/2012

The Vilas county board of supervisors voted Tuesday to reinsert a total of $654,500 into next year’s budget for wages and benefits for eleven and a quarter full and part time workers. The plan had been to cut employees and outsource their jobs in maintenance and internet technology to private companies. Staff in a number of other county departments would have been cut as well.

Supervisor Chris Meyer, who chairs the county board’s budget-writing committee, made the motion to amend the budget. Today’s action avoided an involuntary reduction in staff. Earlier this month the board approved a voluntary retirement program.

Other items restored to the Vilas county budget were $50,000 for the Vilas County Economic Development, $2500 for the Civil Air Patrol program, and $6875 for the Northwoods Restorative Justice program.

The final budget for 2013 was approved unanimously on a voice vote.
