Large Grant Aids Cooperation Between Health Depts.
Posted 02/02/2013
Among the 18 counties in the grant are Vilas, Oneida, Forest, Iron, Langlade, and Lincoln and the Lac Courte Oreilles tribe at Hayward.
Vilas County Health Officer Gina Egan says many of the Northwoods counties already share health-related services such as the Northwoods Dental Project.....
"....as resources diminish, public health departments are still expected to provide services, whether it's immunization, health education, disaster preparedness, whatever it might be. We have to continue to provide those services with fewer resources. So consequently, a way to enhance our services would be to share resources.
Another example is tobacco use. Oneida county is the central agency for several northern counties' anti-tobacco efforts.
Egan says the grant will be used to do further service collaboration. The grant is for two years.
