A new program in Forest County is kicking up dust at the racetrack.  Forest County UW Extension is hoping to prevent juvenile delinquency by teaching kids to build remote control, or “RC," race cars.  

If you’ve never seen remote control car racing before…there’s a good chance you’re not prepared for how wild it is.

The Oneida County Humane Society is hosting the "Hike For Homeless Pets" this weekend.

Spokesperson Sue Otis says the fundraiser helps keep the Rhinelander shelter in business...

"...funds will be used for our adoption center. That's basically for our operations and the needs of the animals and to take care of them and basically to run the building. Any maintenance...just to keep the center going..."

Two grant awards for northern Wisconsin Native American communities from the U.S. Department of Agriculture are intended to spur local economic development.

Acting Under Secretary for Rural Development, Doug O'Brien says the Great Lakes Intertribal Council in Lac du Flambeau received $80,000 to fund a small business training program.

NiiJii Capital Partners in Keshena received more than $93,000 to provide technical assistance to 12 Menominee county businesses.

The Board of Commissioners of Public Lands has approved more than $2 million in state trust fund loans for 7 city projects.

Three of the news loans refinance existing debt, while four involve tax incremental districts, including the downtown upgrade project.

ArtStart kicks off a new summer exhibit today in Rhinelander.  It’s the first show to go up in the gallery after a series of renovations. 

The work on display in the "Art of Hunting and Fishing" ranges from woodcuts and drawings of duck hunters, to a collection of antique decoys and a birchbark canoe.  ArtStart Board President Ken Juon says he hopes the outdoorsy topic will appeal even to those who might not typically find themselves in a gallery.

An Armstrong Creek man has avoided prison time but will be jailed for a February incident at his home in Forest County.

A first-degree attempted homicide charge was dropped against 52 year old Forrest Schaller. Schaller was arrested after gunshots were fired February 3 at a Dallman Road residence. Two people were found unhurt in the home.

A new assisted living center has opened in Rhinelander.  The Rennes Health and Rehab Center held a ribbon cutting ceremony today.

A few dozen staff members, community leaders and patients gathered at the new nursing facility to celebrate its opening.  But the Rennes Health and Rehab Center has actually been taking care of patients since March 1st.  That’s when the group closed its location in Phelps and moved 33 patients to the new Rhinelander facility.

Another strong sales report from a realtor's group shows that market sector is recovering from the recession.

The monthly Wisconsin Realtors Association report shows statewide, the sale of existing homes in May increased 18 percent over May 2012. That's the 23rd straight month of sales growth in Wisconsin.

The long-festering issue of meeting times for the Oneida county board was addressed Tuesday...for the time being.

Citizens have asked the board to hold night meetings. The board routinely meets the third Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. as spelled out in county bylaws. Some felt the meeting times cut out workers from running for the board and attending meetings. The board earlier rejected night meetings, but left the door open to have some flexibility concerning scheduling meetings.
