Tourism Council Has New President
Posted 02/16/2013
Oneida County has a new Tourism Council has a new president.
Minocqua Chamber Director Kim Baltus was elected the new leader succeeding Diane Hapka who stepped down after taking a job with the American Cancer Society.
The council is made up of a number of Oneida county governments who share tourism-related resources. Baltus says this concept is closer to the way tourists travel the Northwoods...
"....they all take daytrips. I think we recognize that we have very mobile travelers. It's not uncommon for them to go across the county to see varying points of interest. It's important for us to know it's not just about 'our town'...."
She says the council worked on a visitor's guide where each of the towns were given a page in the guide to talk about what each has to offer. She says a key component is a comprehensive trail guide...
"....I think that will be very well received by our travelers. Just speaking from the Mincoqua Chamber(perspective), the Visitor Destination Guide, the Dining Guide and the Trail Guides are the three most important pieces we give out...."
She says key is keeping the Oneida county board informed about the importance of tourism to the Northwoods.
