Deer Meetings In Stevens Point Next Month
Posted 02/23/2013
Texas researcher Dr. James Kroll presented 62 recommendations to be considered. Kroll's report was authorized by Governor Scott Walker.
DNR Deer Trustee Report Coordinator Eric Lobner says this is the first of seven meetings...
"....we're inviting the public, whether their a part of a group or an individual if they want to be involved in taking the Deer Trustee Report and putting them into action or helping decide what direction they should be implemented within the department...."
Lobner says one recommendation that appeared seveal times was a deer management assistance program...
"....an avenue for land owners to work more closely with their local wildlife biologist to get them out on their property and give them recommendations. The expectation that comes with that is to give information on what those landowners are seeing..."
The recommendations include eliminating the Sex-Age-Kill formula used for deer management to one based on more local property owners observations.
The meetings begin March 9 at the Dreyfus University Center on the UW-Stevens Point campus. All meetings will be held at the same site. More information on the meetings is on the DNR website.
