Tax-Free Broadband In Northwoods Honored

The Three Lakes Model is a roadmap for rural communities to build broadband and cellphone infrastructure much like larger communities.
Town Chair Don Sidlowski outlines the model...
"....Three Lakes provided nearly 100 percent high-speed internet and cellphone coverage for our residents without the use of either taxpayer dollars or grant awards...."
Sidlowski says the community goal was to provide high-speed service, but others took notice...
"....our work was noted by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin and then University of Wisconsin Extension, it turned out to be quite a journey across the entire state of Wisconsin with our serving as a role model and inspiration for scores of other communities...."
Sidlowski says state offiicials and educators are telling other communities that if Three Lakes can do it, so can those communities..
The Top Rural Development Initiatives goal is to increase the visibility of these best practices and strengthen the network between communities so they can model after creative projects that have been successful in other areas of the state.
