300 Participants Expected For White Deer Triathlon In Boulder Junction

Pete Rondello-Boulder Jct. Chamber of Commerce

Boulder Junction is getting ready for an influx of athletes and visitors this weekend for the 4th annual White Deer Triathlon.

Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Theresa Smith says the White Deer has a different twist than most events of this type...

"....this Saturday, May 19th and it's a paddle, bike, run triathlon. It's a little different than the standard triathlon which is a swim. We chose paddling because the water is still a little cool. Folks are going to do a 6k paddle across Boulder Lake, then they're going to transition to their bicycles at Camp Manitowish and do a 22K bike route around Boulder Junction and back to camp, then they will transition to their running shoes and do a 6K run through downtown Boulder Junction and through some forest trails to our Community Center where the finish line is at...."

Individuals, 2-Person Teams and 3-Person Relay Teams are welcome. Smith says they're expecting close to 300 participants this year. Smith says it's a good time for an event like this...

"....It's kind of an off weekend, still, things are starting to get busy here in Boulder Junction in the Northwoods. There still are some openings for our accomodations.so it's a good event for Boulder. It brings people in from out of town..."

She says spectators are welcome. There will be food and refreshments at the Community Center along with other night time activities. Smith says registrations will be accepted online through Thursday at noon. Walk-in registrations are accepted Friday evening between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Contact the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce for more information.
