AG Schimel Appointed To Waukesha County Circuit Court

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -- Governor Scott Walker today announced the appointment of Attorney General Brad Schimel to serve as judge on the Waukesha County Circuit Court, replacing Judge Patrick Haughney. “Brad Schimel has diligently served the State of Wisconsin as attorney general and the citizens of Waukesha County as district attorney,” said Governor Walker. “Schimel has shown a commitment to the rule of law and the State of Wisconsin. He will continue to faithfully serve our state as Waukesha County Circuit Court judge.”

Both Schimel and Walker will see their current jobs come to an end in January following results of the mid-term election. Schimel was defeated by Josh Kaul in the Attorney General's race.

Walker was defeated by Tony Evers. Both results were within tens of thousands of votes.

Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair Martha Laning reacted to the appointment.

“Wisconsinites overwhelmingly want their courts to be independent, but Scott Walker has nonetheless appointed a highly partisan Republican to the job. Even though Wisconsin voters rejected divisive and partisan politicians like Brad Schimel just two weeks ago, Republicans have chosen to ignore the will of voters and put politics before people.”
