Rhinelander third district alderperson Sherrie Belliveau has resigned from the city council, according to a press release from city administrator Daniel Guild.

“I am resigning effective immediately,” Belliveau stated in the release. “I would like to thank the city hall support staff for all of their assistance over the past 14 and-a-half years, the city department heads, and their staff for their dedication and hard work, my common council peers, both old and new, for their selfless commitment to represent the citizens of Rhinelander. Most of all, I thank the city taxpayers that have encouraged and thanked me along the way. They are what this job is about.”

Belliveau was first elected to represent district 3 in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, 2012 and 2016. “We wish Sherrie health and happiness as she pursues other interests, said Mayor Chris Frederickson. “She served the city for over a decade, during some difficult and contentious times. Her energy, her passion for public projects, especially city parks, was valued and will be missed.”

The council will reportedly discuss plans for filling the vacancy at their January meeting. Until a successor is appointed, residents of district 3 can direct comments and concerns to Frederickson at 715-365-8600 or mayor@rhinelandercityhall.org.
