Shoppers were out in force today as big box stores featured discounts and sales.   It was a good day even for businesses that weren’t offering deals.

“It is noticeably busier, but we do nothing different with our prices. There is definitely more foot traffic on black Friday.”

So says Chris Turk, manager of Hodag Gun and Pawn in Rhinelander, which sells pawned used items and new guns.  Turk says many of the customers today have been hunters and people buying holiday gifts.

“You know, here the main attraction is definitely the firearms. But they come for a little bit of everything. We have people who like t come for the jewelry and the coins, people who are in for the musical instruments. Cheap DVDs, a lot of people love our one dollar dvds. So we get a lot of traffic on that alone.”

Turk says business as of Friday afternoon was up about 25 percent from a normal day.
