Challenge Bowl Gives Teens Insight Into Finances and Investment

WXPR

Northwoods high school students got a taste of what a challenge navigating the world of money can be Wednesday at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.

Rhinelander School District  Business Education Teacher Patrick Kubeny describes how the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl competition works...

"....the Northwoods Regional. We have schools from Bowler and Three Lakes competing against several Rhinelander teams today. The top two teams will advance on later this spring to the state finals in Milwaukee. It's a competition, much like a 'Jeopardy' type of game except there's four people on a team. They each have buzzers and they buzz in on finance and economic-related questions...."

Bridger Flory was one of the competitors from a Rhinelander team...

"....I've learned a lot from Mr. Kubeny's class, 'Money Management'. It's helped me plan out my future a lot already which is cool. I learned a couple new things from questions that we've gotten wrong...."

Grace Heck was one of the competitors from a Rhinelander team...

"..I've learned to re-look at the knowledge we've gotten in the financial classes. It tests your knowledge. You get to know a few more things you maybe didn't know but was good to know...."

This is the 6th annual Challenge Bowl. Local sponsors including Partners In Education and Nicolet College brought in Madison-based non-profit Asset Builders. Asset Builders promotes financial education and strategies for people in low income communities.
