Comment Period Still Open For CNNF Recreation Site Changes

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

There's still time to provide input on proposed changes to recreation sites in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

The Forest reviewed 193 developed recreation sites. Forest program manager Tim Vetter explains what is proposed...

"...We're proposing no change to 45 of those sites. 22 of those sites would receive some level of de-investment by removal of some infrastrucure. Those sites would revert to general forest area open to the public. The balance, 126 sites, there's a range of proposal to some level of de-investment to also adding some amenties like adding electric to some campsites...."

The comment period began in October and ends on December 15. The Forest Service is looking for feedback on the proposed changes for each of the recreation sites. Vetter says specific comments, including alternatives to what has been proposed, are welcomed for the 5-year Recreation Facility Strategy.

The Forest has held open houses on the changes, most recently in Antigo.

A list of the proposed changes can be found at theChequamegon-Nicolet National Forest website.
