Documentary Explores Whether American Dream Lives On

en.wikipedia.org

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods is hosting a film Thursday that examines the American Dream.

League of Women Voters of the Northwoods spokesperson Jane Trotter says the League has two goals: voter registration and access and education. She says presenting the documentary 'Dream On' falls into the education portion of the mission. Trotter says the film will be released in theaters this fall, but the producers approached the group about an early free screening.

"....it's basically a documentary that talks about the American Dream, is the American Dream still viable? Is there an American Dream?..."

Trotter says the documentary explores the same path as French author and philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville who penned the classic, "Democracy In America"...

"....this documentary follows the footsteps de Tocqueville took, visited the places he did, interviewed lots of people from lots of walks of life to see if they still believed in, felt, the concept of the American Dream...."

Performer John Fugelsang speaks with fast-food workers and retirees, prisoners and entrepreneurs, undocumented immigrants and community organizers about their hopes, dreams, and daily struggles.

The showing is free and is set for Thursday, July 14, at 7 pm at ArtStart in Rhinelander. Following the film will be an audience discussion.
