Drug Take Back Day Set For October 27

takebackyourmeds.org

Law enforcement agencies locally and across the U.S. are hosting the next Prescription Drug Take Back Day later this month.

Officials say it's designed to get prescription meds properly disposed of to keep them from being sold on the street or from being flushed down the toilet and making its way into the environment.

Rhinelander Police Captain Ron Lueneburg says it has had an impact...

"..We've been involved in the drug take back for the last four or five years. We'll be hosting another one on October 27 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Rhinelander Police Department. This last drug take back that the state hosted in April had people turn in(statewide) over 63,000 pounds of drugs for disposal..."

Captain Lueneburg says presciption meds are accepted, patches, vitamins, over-the-counter meds, ointments, inhalers and pet medications.

He has a few recommendations...

"..Specifically I want people to dump their medications, either they dump their medications into the receptacle we have or peel the labels off their prescription bottles. We just dispose of it all...."

The Police Departments in Minocqua, Three Lakes, along with Rhinelander will be collection points, as is the Oneida County Landfill. The disposal is anonymous.

Contact your local law enforcement agency for more information.
