ER Dog Park Committee Plans Airport Site Hike

A special Eagle River committee searching for a location for a community dog park has narrowed the possible locations and will make an on-site visit next Wednesday afternoon to the far west end of the municipal airport property to examine ease of access, vegetation, and topography.

While the committee had an initial list of six possible locations, many were too small and used for other activities during the year that would conflict with year around use as a dog park.

The airport location covers about 25 acres and is publically owned. Airport manager Rob Hom said the area west of Bolte Road is outside the perimeter fence and runway approach trapazoid. “We just rebuilt the runway and rejected any runway extension,” Hom said. “Use would only need approval from the city and airport commission."

The committee will look at the area bounded on the south by Illinois Street and further north on the west side of Bolte Road. Interested persons are invited to participate in the field trip that will start at 4:00 pm next Wednesday, August 1, weather permitting.
