Evers Says Local People Should Have A Say In Mining Decisions

WXPR

Democrat Tony Evers says local citizens must be heard on mining issues, he will stand for the national anthem and also support those NFL players who choose to kneel, and he looks forward to funding education.

Evers and Lt. Governor running mate Mandela Barnes stopped in Rhinelander Friday as part of a campaign swing. Evers says local citizens should be heard on mining in Wisconsin...

"...I think the mining bill needs to be changed. I think it has to give people in the local communities some say in it. But I also think that science plays a role and that goes to the big picture of what our natural resource policy is in the state. We need to have scientists at the DNR and we need to have an independent DNR secretary....."

Evers says he will fund education which was part of his budget he wants if elected Governor...

"...I have a budget that I'm looking forward to implementing. As you know I put out a budget that increases special education funding which is extremely important for the state of Wisconsin by $600 million. Instead of passing it on to Governor Walker and having him toss it out, the good news is I can give it to Tony Evers, the new Governor, and I'll be able to take it to the legislature...."

Evers on the NFL anthem policy...

"...Here's what I believe. I'm proud to stand up for the national anthem. I'm equally proud to stand up for people's First Amendment rights. That's what Aaron Rodgers says and I'm with Aaron Rodgers on this..."

Evers also says he will be visiting Wisconsin correctional facilities if he's elected Governor.
