What has  been called the most controversial Presidential campaign in modern history comes to a close today as Americans go to the polls.

We will be electing a new President and Vice-President, one member of the Wisconsin delegation to the U.S. Senate, members of Congress, state representatives and a state senate race. County races are also being decided, though few incumbents in the area are facing opposition.

Elcho schools are holding the only school referendum in the region, several towns have referendum questions, including Lake Tomahawk with a question about campaign finance reform.

This will be Oneida County Clerk Mary Bartelt's last election as she is retiring. She was asked what she thinks will be the voter turnout today in Oneida county...

"....with all the early voting I bet we have 30 percent in already since the time that the town clerks received their ballots. But I would take a guess that for our county, I think we would hit at least 50 percent..."

The Wisconsin Elections Commission is predicting that 3.1 million people will cast ballots today. That’s 69 percent of Wisconsin’s voting-age population of 4.4 million, according to Census estimates.

WXPR will be joining National Public Radio's election night coverage beginning at 7:00 this evening, with local updates after the polls close this evening at 8:00 p.m.
