Klondike Days President Terry Tryggeseth says it’s hard to point to any one factor that’s led to the end of Klondike Days on this its 25th anniversary.

“The event has, if you will, run its course. Participation by the public has weaned a little bit of the years. Of course having two years back-to-back of bitter, bitter cold didn’t help us by any means.”

The Eagle River event will feature the usual winter events, including the lumberjack competition, dog pull, craft show, and Ojibwe dance company. Klondike days traditionally draws up to 8000 visitors. Tryggeseth says interest has been high so far for its Saturday grand finale.

“It’s a sad day to see it go, but we’re gonna be there with bells and whistles to celebrate it for our 25th.”

One of those bells is live bluegrass music, all day, until 11 pm. It remains to be seen whether another winter event might take the place of Klondike Days in the future.
