Lakeland Senior Center Total Loss After Fire

openclipart.org

Leaders of the Lakeland Senior Center in Woodruff are  meeting to begin the process of restoring services after a fire destroyed the building early Wednesday.

Fire Chief Michael Timmons said the call came in shortly after one p.m. Wednesday and he realized Woodruff needed help...

".....Minocqua and us were simulcast paged, as well as Medic 5(ambulance) and knowing the building, I called Arbor Vitae for mutual aid as well as St. Germain's ladder trucks...."

Hazelhurst and Little Rice also were called, he said.

Timmons says the fire doesn't appear to be suspicious. No injuries were reported fighting the blaze. The fire crews were on the scene at least 7 hours.

Center Director Holly Schwartz said the board would be meeting to put together a plan to begin restoring services. The center's Meals-On-Wheels program was suspended until further notice.
