The release of a man convicted of violent sexual assault of children has resulted in meetings in Forest county.
52 year old Jeffrey LeVasseur has been housed in a Door county facility until a residence in Forest county is secured. Attempts at placing him at homes in Hiles, Blackwell, and Lanark, and Plover were unsuccessful.
He's proposed to stay at a residence on Sand Lake Road in the Town of Nashville.
LeVasseur was identified in 2008 by the state to be a violent sex offender with a mental disorder and a predisposition to re-offend. The state intended to place him in a rented cabin in the Forest County town of Blackwell, but neighbors sued the cabin owner.
Offenders are returned to the county where the original crime was committed and supervised.
A meeting is set for Monday at 6 p.m. the Mole Lake Lodge-Conference Center where organizers hope citizens sign a petition to keep LeVasseur out of the Town of Nashville in Forest county.
