Milfoil On The ER Chain Focus Of November 15 Meeting

Wikimedia Commons

The battle against the spread of aquatic invasive Eurasian Water Milfoil on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes is the focus of a meeting later this month near Eagle River.

The Unified Lower Eagle River Chain of Lakes Commission is hosting the meeting.

Dave Tidmarsh of  the Eagle River Chain of Lakes Association says they work with the Commission on this matter.

The Commission is a joint public-private entity that filed the grant to treat the milfoil...

"...The meeting coming up is the annual presentation by this consulting company we use to present the results of this year's treatments and where we stand for things to be done in the future..."

The presentation highlights the diver-assisted suction harvesting of the invasive milfoil on Yellow Birch, Scattering Rice and Watersmeet lakes this past summer with an overview of the 2019 management plans. Tidmarsh says the efforts appear to be succeeding...

"...That has been successful for us. While our acreage of milfoil has gone dramatically down, it inched up a little bit but is not of great concern. We targeted a couple of lakes this next year that are going to be hand harvested. So basically we're staying steady with the problem...we're in maintenance mode...."

The public is welcome at the Lincoln town hall on Sundstein(sund-steen) Road at 7:00 p.m. on November 15.
