New Ride Service In Northwoods Looking For Drivers, Riders

cilww.com

A western Wisconsin based non-profit is beginning service in the Northwoods and are looking for volunteer vehicle drivers to take people needing rides to local destinations.

The Center For Independent Living for Western Wisconsin recently expanded their services to cover many Northwoods counties.

Transportation Program Coordinator Bobbi Hegna says they need people to volunteer as drivers using their vehicles to give people who have difficulty getting to things like doctor appointments a way to get there....

"...There are other transportation programs in the county. We are not taking over their programs. All we do is fill the gaps for everybody. If they can't do transportation then we fill in that gap and have a driver do that...."

They service Oneida, Vilas, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln and Iron counties among several others. Hegna will be at the Forest County Fair Ice Cream Social Friday at 1:00 p.m. to explain to potential drivers and riders what the program entails....

"...So that they know there are options out there if they can't get a ride and also anyone who would like to volunteer to drive...."

Drivers need to have a valid license, have good diving record, pass a background check and have insurance. The Center also has additional insurance. Mileage is reimbursed at the current federal rate which is 57 cents per mile. Hegna encouraged people to contact her at the fair. We also have a link here.
