Northwoods Libraries Getting Equipped For Voter Registration

Debra Durchslag

Citizens now have easier access to voting information at three Northwoods libraries.

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods has placed Voter Education and Registration Information at the Rhinelander and Minocqua Public Libraries and the Walter E. Olson Memorial Library in Eagle River.

League spokesperson Debra Durchslag says by the end of September, Oneida, Vilas, Forest, Lincoln and Langlade counties will be involved.

Seven libraries in those counties are willing to take on helping the public with the Voter Education and Registration Assistance Project.

Debra Durchslag describes the VERAP program...

"...People in these counties now have seven locations now in addition to their municipal clerks where they can go to self-register to vote, or begin the registration process and they can go and the librarians can more easily answer questions...."

The League is working toward establishing VERAP in the main cities in the region, including Three Lakes, Boulder Junction, Tomahawk, Merrill, Crandon and Antigo, along with Rhinelander, Minocqua and Eagle River.
