The Vilas County Public Health Department is hosting a town hall meeting next month on the growing problem of opioid addiction.

Community Health Coordinator Tammi Boersm  says the keynote speaker is Dr. Michael Larson, a clinical psychologist at Marshfield Clinic, Minocqua Center.

Boers says the scope of the epidemic is showing up in the numbers of deaths...

"...This is definitely a problem in the area as well as across the country. In Wisconsin, our deaths have been rising from overdoses and becoming higher than the number of people who died from motor vehicle crashes, suicide, breast cancer, colon cancer, the flu and HIV...."

Dr. Larson will discuss what opioids are and why they're prescribed, what is Opioid Use Disorder, and treatment options. Tammi Boers says if you're interested in attending, to contact her at the Vilas County Health Department by October 24.

The town hall is set for November 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Arbor Vitae Community Center.
