A Milwaukee filmmaker is navigating the length of the Wisconsin River on a paddleboard while doing a documentary about the state's longest river.
30 year old Jesse Heib started at the headwaters near Land O' Lakes on Friday.
He says he's a big paddleboarder and after talking with members of the River Alliance and having them explain the significance of the river he thought a paddle and a documentary would go well together....
"... the more I researched it and learned about it, I couldn't help but want to tell the story. I felt it was something that more people needed to know. So my trade is a film producer so it worked out quite well...."
Hieb is an avid paddleboarder and feels honored to be involved...
"...getting to tell stories about a state that I love and the outdoors here in Wisconsin is just incredible. It's just an honor to get to tell this story about the Wisconsin River...."
Hieb thinks he can navigate the river in 17 days, averaging about 25 miles a day.
The River Alliance of Wisconsin is in partnership with Hieb on the effort.
In 2014, Hieb made it 17 hours and 48 miles across Lake Michigan before ending the effort to cross the Great Lake due to poor weather.
