Public Input Sought Concerning Some Recreation Changes In CNNF

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

Public comment is sought on some draft proposed management actions regarding recreation sites in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Forest staff analyzed 193 developed recreation sites. Forest spokesperson Hilary Markin says they've put together a plan they feel is sustainable. 45 sites would have no change, 22 sites would be converted to general forest area with removal of infrastructure and the remaining 126 sites have various other proposed changes.

Markin says you can go to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest website and look at the proposed changes and offer comments..

"....They will see Recreation Site Analysis right on the banner. It sends you to the link that talks about recreation site analysis and fees. It will bring up this interactive map where you can cruise around on the map, find the site you're most interested in or your favorite spots. Take a look at what is being proposed and you can enter your comments right in there...."

We have a link to the webpagehere.

Comments are being taken on the action until December 15. They are holding a series of six meetings in Crandon, Park Falls, Medford, Ashland, Cable and Antigo between October 29 and November 13.

Also related to the proposal is the Forest Service is seeking volunteer committee members to advice the agency on recreation fee charges at sites in the northeastern U.S. The Recreation Advisory Committee approves any fee changes requested by the Forest.
