School Of The Arts Registration Opens; Historical Format Returns

artstartrhinelander.org

Registration has opened for the 2018 School of the Arts to be held at Treehaven near Tomahawk in late September. School of the Arts ran in Rhinelander as a function of UW-Madison from 1967 until 2015.

In 2017, ArtStart in Rhinelander revived the program under a different format. ArtStart held a writer's retreat and an art and nature retreat.

ArtStart's Development Director Melinda Childs says this year's effort is closer to past Schools of the Arts....

"...We decided to do a four-day retreat with all the art mediums back together as it historically was. There's poetry, movement, art making, playwriting, all sorts of different genres together. That will be held at Treehaven in Tomahawk. There will be some free workshops and demonstrations and lectures at Art Start and at the Rhinelander District Library..."

Registration is open. Melinda Childs says at the website dedicated to School of the Arts you can register and scroll through the classes being offered.

"...There's just a lot of fun things going on and you can participate in a variety of ways. You could take one class, you could come to one free workshop, you could come to a reception, or you could take 10 classes, be there all weekend and be part of the School of the Arts community..."

She says also returning is the opening of the Northern National Art Competition at Nicolet College Art Gallery in Rhinelander during School of the Arts. Childs says go to the website school of the arts dot org and click on the school of the arts tab for more information.

The event is September 27-30 at UWSP Treehaven.
