'Stuff The Bus' Might Be Two Buses Next Year

School District of Rhinelander

A recent effort to get school supplies to kids in need has proven to be such a success promoters would like to double it next year.

The Northwoods United Way 'Stuff the Bus' was held at the Rhinelander WalMart.

United Way Executive Director Nancy Sattler says the idea was for shoppers to buy an extra school item and donate it...

"....we parked the bus outside and had a banner on it We were encouraging people through the banner and other advertising....when they buy school supplies, they buy two and give one to the bus...."

Sattler says the response was so positive they were able to collect $1,000 worth of goods in just a few hours...

"....we had a lot of people shopping for last minute supplies that day that saw that banner and bought supplies for us on their way out and they dropped it off and had a lot of fun putting it in the bus. We also had a lot of businesses who conducted their own drives during August and dropped it off at the bus...."

She says the supplies were given to the elementary schools the first day of school. She says school personnel confidentially then gave the items to students who need assistance. Sattler says they were so pleased with the turnout they would like to stuff two school buses next year.
