Town Electors To Vote On Boulder Junction Police Chief

The town electors will have a say as the Boulder Junction town board looks at an open police and fire chief position.

Town chair Charlie Spencer says with the recent retirement of Jim Hanson, the town board is looking for public input to help determine what to do....

?

"....over the last couple of years we've had a few of our citizens ask us as board members, 'do we really need the expense of a police officer anymore?' do to the fact that Vilas county stations a squad car in our township at the county shop. They're patroling the area quite a bit already.. This wasn't the case in the past in Boulder. So what we're going to do is bring the topic up at the meeting of the electors and see what the concensus of the community is. Do they want us to keep the position open and fill it or do they want us to consider utilizing those dollars in other areas of the budget?...."

Spencer says the position costs the town about $100,000 when all the components of the job are factored in. He says they will put the matter before citizens when the annual meeting takes place on April 14 at 7:00 p.m. to see whether citizens want to fund the positions or drop it from the budget.
