The Wisconsin Arts Board toured the growing Northwoods Arts community Friday during the first of a two day stop.

The Board encourages the development of the arts and Executive Director George Tzougrous says their meetings are designed to show the board what is happening in the arts...

"....Arts Board staff gets out during the year but the board members who come from all around the state don't get that same privilege.  On these days they get to see what's going on out there so when they sit in Madison or wherever they're meeting might be, they'll have a better sense of what is going on, the challenges, and what the opportunities might be...."

Tzougrous says the arts in Wisconsin are outstanding, as evidenced by the growth in the Northwoods of arts centers in Rhinelander, Three Lakes, Eagle River and Land O' Lakes. He says funding is another matter. He says Wisconsin Arts continue to grow because of the generosity of private donors who have stepped forward.

The Arts Board visited the Three Lakes School and its unique FAB LAB, the Three Lakes Center For the Arts, Northland Pines High School and the Warehouse art center in Eagle River and the Land O' Lakes Artisans before stopping for an evening event at ArtStart in Rhinelander.
