AT&T Brings Upgraded Network To Vilas County

AT&T has upgraded it's 4G LTE cell towers  in the Northwoods.

AT&T Wisconsin president Scott VanderSanden says the most recent upgrades at their towers in Conover and Long Lake are intended to provide faster data speeds to commercial customers.

He says this is in conjunction with a recent upgrade to help first responders...

....For us, it was the next step in upgrading the technology. We, as part of the FirstNet program, a federal program, it will ultimately bring much better data speeds for first responders, firemen, police, those types of folks. We will be upgrading our network over the next five years, actually 25 years all across the state to be able to do that. In that situation we will actually be building some new towers but in this case we upgraded capacity on existing towers..."

In 2017, Wisconsin accepted the FirstNet and AT& T plan to deliver a wireless broadband network to the state's public safety community. This latest upgrade will help commercial customers using wireless devices. VanderSanden says they've spent nearly $725 million in Wisconsin on wireless and wired networks from 2014-2016.
