Wisconsin's Lt. Governor will be the keynote speaker next week as Oneida County Economic Development Corporation hosts it's annual luncheon at Holiday Acres near Rhinelander.
The topic this year is "The Future of Economics in the Northwoods" and the Corporation's Director Stacey Johnson says within a decade, the jobs in this region could look much different...
"...If we take a look at what the economy is good to look like, what the workforce is going to look like, five, ten years from now. The jobs that will be in demand will be quite different than what they've been historically. How do we prepare our community to bring in the kind of training that we need, be able to work with the kind of companies that will be here. More tech-enabled companies. We take a look at the STEM related fields. How do we equip our community to meet those needs and grow in that direction?"
Stacey Johnson says for the Northwoods to grow, it will take collaboration...
"Regardless of whether you call it economic development, community development, workforce, it's all the same thing. It's a collaborative effort it's and community effort to define what our future looks like and prepare ourselves for that..."
Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes will be the keynote speaker. There will also be a presentation by a student from the Fab Lab in Three Lakes and an update from Director Steve Yahr. Angie Dickinson, the head of the state's broadband effort, will also attend.
