DEMMER LIBRARY ANNOUNCES SUMMER READING PROGRAMS June marks the beginning of the Demmer Library Summer Reading Program. The program will run from June 21 – August 14. This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales.” The library is using the app Beanstack to keep track of minutes read, with a goal of 40 hours in 8 weeks. You can log minutes by going to our Beanstack site at demmerlibrary.beanstack.org, you can download the app, or stop by the library to get a paper reading log. The Summer Reading Program is for all ages and offers prizes for participation. Summer reading events kick off with a Make Music Day and a parade to each of the new Storybook Garden spots around town, on June 21, at 10:00 am on the Demmer lawn. No registration is required. In yearly tradition, Honey Rock Camp will sponsor Family Canoe Night at Maple Lake on June 22, at 6:00 PM. Participants should register ahead at the library to ensure there are enough canoes for everyone. Please bring your own life jacket and enjoy an evening paddling on the water. With the theme of “Tail and Tales” in mind, the library is hosting the Trees for Tomorrow Program: Fish Adaptations and Habitats on June 29 at 10:00 am on the Demmer lawn. Learn about the diversity of fish morphology and how it provides adaptive advantage for specific habitats. Registration is not required but bring a blanket or a chair. “Books the Other Channel” book group will be meeting in the Maple Room or virtually via BlueJeans on June 22, at 6:30 pm to discuss “Crossing to Safety” by Wallace Stegner. All are invited to attend. Programs and events will continue in July and August. Check the Demmer Library website or Facebook page for more events and information. The library is open for in-person services Mondays and Wednesdays 12 PM - 7 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 AM – 5 PM, and Friday 12 PM - 5 PM, with extended hours for vestibule pick-up of checked-out materials and access to free magazine and puzzle exchange and used books on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 AM – 12 PM.
