Initial Appearance In Vilas Co. For Man Arrested In Death

Vilas County Sheriff's Dept.

The suspect in a Eagle River homicide, Jeremiah Solis, 19 appeared in Vilas County court Tuesday, Sept. 5 for a bond hearing related to the shooting death of Connor Stephens, 20, of Conover last weekend.

He was released on a $20,000 signature bond and will return Sept. 25 for his initial appearance when formal charges are expected to be known. Vilas County  District Attorney Martha Milanowski told the court anticipated charges include homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon, a pistol, and armed while under the influence.

Authorities responded to 421 Wall Street and found Solis attempted to give first aid to Stephens who had a gunshot wound to his upper chest and was pronounced dead at the Eagle River hospital. Milanowski indicated Solis bought a Smith & Wesson pistol last weekend at the gun show in Eagle River and had no receipt nor any backgound check.

Milanowski indicated his conduct does not appear intentional and asked for a court date in two weeks. Vilas County Judge Neal Nielsen released Solis under a $20,000 signature bond and set his initial appearance for Sept. 25 at which time formal charges will be known.
