The state reports preliminary February unemployment rates declined or stayed the same over the year in 68 of Wisconsin's 72 counties.

Douglas, Iron, Door and Vilas counties experienced nearly one percent decrease, tying for the largest decrease in the state.

State economist Mitchell Rupp in Wausau gives the latest numbers...

"...For Forest, 5.7, Langlade 4.8, Lincoln 4.0, Oneida 5.1, and Vilas 5.0...."

Iron county had the state's highest rate at 7.1 percent, with Price county at 4.2 percent. All area counties saw a drop in this year's unemployment levels in February compared to a year ago.

Rupp has the statewide average...

"So now looking at the State of Wisconsin for the month of February, the unemployment rate was at 3.3, which had a decrease of .2 from the previous month and a decrease of .5 from the previous year..."

The full impact of the job terminations at Petco and Shopko in Rhinelander will not be showing up in the jobless numbers for a few more weeks. More information on the unemployment is at wisconomy.com
