Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin says the shooting tragedies in Texas and Ohio are horrible, but it might prompt President Trump to talk about taking action.

In the Northwoods this week, Democrat Baldwin was asked about the potential of gun legislation.

She said she first wanted to acknowledge the human tragedy, but said it might prompt some action..

"...This was the first time in a long time that I have heard from this president about any willingness to work in a bipartisan basis in strengthening our background checks laws and in particular closing the loopholes that exist for so many purchases and exchanges happen outside of that background law..."

Baldwin sees no inconsistency between rights and potential federal laws...

"..I'm a gun owner, I respect the Second Amendment. I don't think there's any inconsistency between the Second Amendment and these common sense safety steps to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people..."

Trump met with victims and EMS personnel Wednesday in El Paso and Dayton, but was also met by protests and city officials who felt his presence would further inflame the hurt. Trump dismissed ideas Wednesday that his speech enflamed the situation,  saying his speech brings people together.
