Former Marathon Co. Teacher Faces Federal Child Pornography Charges

WAOW Television

A Marathon county teacher has been indicted on federal charges of attempting to produce child pornography.

U.S. District Court in Madison reports 38-year-old Travis Greil of Wausau is charged with six counts. He's also facing state charges on the matter. The indictment alleges that between August 2015 and February 2020, he attempted to use six minors to produce child pornography using an iPad. During this time, Greil was employed as a teacher at D.C. Everest High School.

If convicted, Greil faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years on each count.

State and local law enforcement were involved in the investigation.

This indictment has been brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
