Oneida County Landfill Leader Asks Public To Only Bring Garbage Now

With the "Safer At Home" order in place, folks have a lot of time to clean closets and work around the yard as spring is arriving. That is creating a problem at the Oneida County Landfill.

Landfill Director Lisa Jolin says they're considered an 'essential' service under the order, but they don't want all types of trash right now...

"The problem is people have the time to go through closets, being home, and they're bringing clean out stuff or a little remodeling projects, things like that, that are necessary garbage and they're exposing not only our employees but other community members as well. We're an essential business taking garbage. It's important, but, a microwave could wait a few weeks..."

Jolin says necessary waste is considered to be household garbage only. Items temporarily not accepted include hazardous waste, electronics, yard waste, tires, and furniture. In addition, the facility will be closed all four Saturdays in April. Jolin says limiting employee and community exposure is a priority.

The Public Recycling Center will remain accessable during business hours. She says if you have questions, call the Oneida County Landfill at 715-282-4945.
