Crews have been working about a month on the next phase of the rebuild of a main street on Rhinelander's north side.
The Stevens Street project began last year and crews are moving on schedule according to Project Manager Mark Barden.
Crews have been putting in new underground pipes and Musson Brothers Construction has been paving...
"So we're anticipating road will be built, base course, not necessarily curb and gutter and asphalt at this time but road will be built up to Woodland(Drive) I would guess in about three weeks..."
From Dwight to Iverson Steets and Woodland the roadway is open to businesses, but no through traffic. He says by mid-June a good portion of the work to Woodland will be done....
"By the end of this year, in October, we will have that road built, sidewalk, bike path, asphalt, curb and gutter and striping up to the bypass by early October.."
He says due to safety concerns, two way traffic isn't possible through the work zone, but they have an alternative route. Barden says they're working to make the construction as painless as possible. He says the surface layer from Frederick to Dwight Streets will likely be put on in June.
When this year ends, there will be a base layer of asphalt, with the final surfacing set for next year with a June 1, 2021 end date.
