Free Flu Shots for Veterans

A partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Walgreens will give free flu shots to veterans who are enrolled in the VA’s health care system. Public Affairs Officer Brad Nelson says the partnership makes it more accessible for veterans.

“…if they have a local Walgreens that’s participating, they can ask for that. They will have to fill out some paper work there, and if they have other health insurance, they will ask for that. However, it will get entered into their record, again, they don’t have to bring records or anything, the Walgreens will send that information over to the VA and we will be able to enter it in there.”

Nelson says veterans do not need to make an appointment, but can request the flu shot at their regularly scheduled doctor’s appointments.

The Rhinelander VA clinic will offer flu vaccinations 1pm to 4pm every Friday from October 16 to November 20. Flu shots are available at Walgreens during their regular pharmacy hours.
