MASH Blood Drive Comes To Rhinelander Thursday

Community Blood Center

Thursday is the day for the annual MASH blood drive and grill-out in Rhinelander. T

he Community Blood Center of Appleton holds the day-long event with the idea of simulating a Korean-war style MASH unit to gather the badly-needed blood donations.

Spokesperson Tyler Sjostrom says the goal is to provide an incentive to get people to donate during a traditionally slow time...

"..The summers are always pretty challenging for us...people are really busy. They have vacations, schools aren't in session. The act of donating blood becomes a back-burner issue for many people. As you've heard, there's a national(donor) challenge so we're just trying to do our part and make sure the needs of our hospitals and patients are being met this year..."

The MASH blood drive and grill out is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Guard Armory at 1136 Military Road in Rhinelander.

Advance registrations are available on their website or walk-ins are welcome.

The Community Blood Center is nonprofit organization collecting blood and blood products for area hospitals. They have donor centers in Appleton, Oshkosh, Little Chute and Woodruff.

The Center has more than 100 monthly mobile drives to collect more than 50,000 blood donations annually.
