Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) and We Energies are contributing $1 million through their charitable foundations to help communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The foundations will provide grants to nonprofit organizations supporting front-line efforts — primarily hospitals, first responders and food pantries.

WPS spokesperson Matt Cullen says this is the latest donation during the COVID-19 crisis...

"This builds upon steps our foundations have already taken to address urgent needs during this crisis through donations we've made previously to numerous groups..."

Cullen says utility employees are also chipping in...

"$300,000 of that $1 million total will be used to match dollar-for-dollar any personal donations from our employees that are made to those organizations that are on the front lines of combating the effects of this pandemic..."

Nonprofit organizations interested in applying for COVID-19 grants can find information on the WPS Foundation website and the We Energies Foundation website. The foundations of the utilities, including operations in Michigan and Minnesota, have contributed more than $200 million to various communities.
