Eagle Treated After Apparent Fireworks Strike In Crandon

Raptor Education Group Facebook

Wildlife rehabilitators believe an eagle found injured in the Crandon area may have been hit by a firework.

In a Facebook post, the Raptor Education Group in Antigo says a family found the eagle.  He was sitting on their lawn and taking fish from them.

The bird is emaciated, his beak was broken, and he had burns on his face and body.  That led rehabilitators to believe he was likely hit with a firework, possibly around the Fourth of July.  The eagle was covered in feather mites, an indication he had been on the ground for a while.

The Raptor Education Group called the incident one of many reasons why fireworks are detrimental to wildlife.
