Alzheimer's Association Walk Will Be In Your Neighborhood

Alzheimer's Association

RHINELANDER--COVID-19 has changed many events this year, but the Alzheimer's Association annual Walk To End Alzheimer's is still going on, with some changes.

Outreach Specialist for the Greater Wisconsin Chapter, Julie St. Pierre, says the money raised locally stays locally to support programs and services. The Walk is planned for September 19. The opening ceremonies will be held virtually this year, to avoid a large group gathering. They ask you watch the ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on your home digital devices then take to the streets..

"Actually inviting people to walk with their teams, with their friends and family as they're comfortable(with COVID precautions) in their own neighborhoods, their own communities, in their own trails and area instead of walking in a large group as we have in the past...."

St. Pierre says this year's theme, "The Walk Is Everywhere" ties in with local groups walking their neighborhoods. She says individuals walking locally also will help raise awareness. She says the need has never been greater for the Association's services, especially with an aging demographic affected by COVID.

She says go to the website alz.org and pick the community you want to walk in...

"There are lots of tools on that website as well for fundraising. Helping send emails out to friends and family asking them to donate. Starting Facebook fundraisers as an example..."

The Walk is the largest fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association has an office in Rhinelander.(Julie St. Pierre  715.352.4091  jstpierre@alz.org)
