ArtStart Hosting Virtual Holiday Market for Local Artists to Sell Work

Usually around this time of year, there’s no shortage of artist and crafter markets.

There’s often one in a different town each weekend now through Christmas.

But with the COVID-19 pandemic, those events either aren’t happening, are reduced in size, or people just don’t feel comfortable attending.

ArtStart usually holds a holiday market in its gallery in Rhinelander.

Program and Operation Director Ashley McLaughlin said they originally canceled the event, but decided to make it virtual instead.

“There is a significant need for artists to have opportunities to continue to have revenue from their craft,” said McLaughlin.

About 30 local artists are taking part.

The holiday market is set up as a marketplace buy/sell group on Facebook.

Shoppers will connect directly with artists to buy items and arrange for delivery.

All the profits from the sales go to the artists.

“It was more important for us to offer the opportunity to artists instead of collecting the fee. We do have a couple fundraisers. A couple artists selling good specifically for fundraisers for ArtStart, but we are not collecting any fees directly from the artists,” said McLaughlin.

The Virtual Holiday Market opens Friday and runs all weekend.
