Boulder Junction Lions Club to Hold Annual Walleye Classic Tournament this Weekend

Boulder Junction Lions Club

The Boulder Junction Lions Club is holding its annual walleye classic fishing tournament this weekend.

Teams of two will take to the lakes around Boulder Junction to see if they can reel in the biggest walleye.

Bob Bertch is the President of the Boulder Junction Lions Club. He says the tournament is catch and release.  Participants take a picture of their catch and send it back.

“It is a lot of fun. These are all guys that love to fish for walleye and of course we still have a lot of walleye in the Boulder Junction area in our lakes and the nice part about the whole tournament is the fish are put back alive and everything’s fine and we can go on and keep fishing and enjoy the sport,” said Bertch.

There is a $100 buy in for the tournament. That money goes back in as prize money and the fish fry dinner for participants.

Bertch said the Lions Club raises most of the money through raffle tickets.

“About 70% of our monies that we get from events is spent back into our town through the fire department, through the library, through whatever projects that we work on. One that we just did is we’re adding a new restroom and bathroom over at Sturm Field here in Boulder Junction on October 12th. That’s all part of what we give back to the community.”

The tournament starts Saturday.

You can register the morning of at the Boulder Junction Community Center starting at 9:00 a.m.

You can contact Bertch with any questions at 715-892-2366 or macooa@centurytel.net.
